Sasha's, Shanghai

Sasha's used to be home to one of the famous Soong sisters - Soong Mei Ling, the wife of Chiang Kai Shek. It was built in the 1920s. Now, it has been converted to a restaurant. We went there for brunch. Entering the restaurant was like going to a European city as the clientele was mainly European, and we were the few Asians there.

I think the reason for Sasha's largely European clientele is that the restaurant is run by non-Asians and the food is probably like comforting home-cooked food to them. So, I guess it's a good place to come to for an authentic taste of European comfort food. Our hospitable host, who we think is British, was very warm and welcoming. He was also forthcoming in recommending dishes for our mains.

We decided on eggs benedict with salmon in hollandaise sauce ...

Sausages and baked beans (homemade) ...

Our pickings from the buffet spread ...
