Some Homecooked Singaporean Goodies ...

When I was home, some of my mom's friends came over and brought over some dishes for a potluck breakfast :) One of them cooked this yam kueh ...

Another brought over this unusual dish: Chinese sticky "nian gao" sandwiched between two thin slices of yam. The whole thing was dipped in flour and fried till crispy. It's been a looong loooong time since I've had this, so it was simply delish!

These dishes embody what I love about homecooking ... nowhere else would you be able to find a dish exactly like that. Even in restaurants where they serve something similar, it'd never taste exactly like what mom cooked. And in some instances, a particular dish would not be found anywhere in the world.
