South Beauty, Xintiandi, Shanghai

The first time I heard of South Beauty was in Taipei where it was reported that a Taiwanese celebrity was marrying the son of the owner of the restaurant chain, South Beauty.  At that time, South Beauty had not opened a branch in Taipei yet, so when I came to Shanghai, I was curious to try it out.  We had tried it once over at Thumb Mall on Pudong, but we soon learnt that the quality of chain restaurants differed vastly.  The more central (as in downtown) the location of the restaurant, the better the quality of food and service.  This South Beauty we went to is in Xintiandi.

We had this interesting walnut appetiser ...

Kung Pao Chicken ... yum!

Fish fillets in hot chili oil (look at those mouth numbing chilies!) ...

Long beans with dried shrimp ...

Stirfried bamboos shoots (seasonal dish) ...
