Audrey Hepburn's wardrobe was auctioned recently.
The dress on the left was actually commissioned by
the actress from the Fontana sisters
for her wedding to James Hanson
which was called off.
Audrey Hepburn asked the designers to give
the dress away to the
"most beautiful, poor Italian girl you can find".
The dress was eventually worn by
Amabile Altobella
who married a local farm worker
and later donated the dress for this auction.
The Givenchy lace cocktail dress
was worn by Audrey Hepburn in
"How to Steal a Million".
Ms Hepburn's generosity was evident in this collection
that was auctioned off
as most of these clothes were given
by Ms Hepburn to her close friend,
Tanja Star-Busmann.
They had known each other since they met
when Ms Hepburn was 20 and Ms Star-Busmann was 15.
