Popiah!

Popiah!
Such a healthy and well balanced meal in itself!
It's my family's favorite dish.
Lots of work involved though ....
I tried making it once by myself and it took me 2 days
to prepare all the ingredients!

Handmade popiah skin (which is the base of everything)

Sprinkle some chopped peanuts over everything
then roll it all up in this ...

... and some finely sliced cucumber

Garnish with bean sprouts

Add a couple of slices of lap cheong /
Cantonese style chinese sausage

place one or two halves of a prawn on top of everything

Add one or two slices of egg

Heap on the popiah filling and spread it out over
the lettuce, sweet soy sauce, garlic and chilli

Add some blended chilli

Spread some minced garlic over the sweet soya sauce

then spread some sweet soya sauce over the lettuce
(so that the popiah skin doesn't get soggy and difficult to handle)

Place the lettuce on the popiah skin
(it's really hard to get hand made popiah skin
nowadays - it's a dying art)

Erm ... excuse the rather empty looking plates
as I again forgot to take a pic before
we all eagerly dug in.

Anyway,
so this is the smorgasboard of food that's needed to
make popiah... which is essentially like a spring roll
that's not fried.
